Of the woman upstairs
Gave the impression 
That he won’t back down
There was nothing I could do 
So I thought “fine"
I’ll imagine I’m at the Scala in Milan
Goddess of the classical Pantheon
Against Antonin Artaud’s theatre of cruelty 
As the audience gathers on their balconies 
To listen to their madrigal for free
She cries her bel canto
Like so many times before 
Props start hitting walls
Synchronised with echoes 
Of his voice
And then the twist
A dramatic pause sits perfectly 
In their score
Like all the rest, I hold my breath
Till he breaks the silence
Screaming “Drop the knife”
Act number three 
The birth of tragedy
Extras march on to the stage
With their matching costumes
And choreography 
Crescendo and then
A bow
Out little foyer is filling up with a crowd
The limousines, they wait outside
To take the actors into the night
White and blue for him
White and red for her and the kid
Their lights, they turn, turn around
And with the sound of sirens 
Our curtain, it falls down
